Welcome to our school!
Kia ora. My name is Kimberley Swinburn and I am honoured to be the Board of Trustees Chairperson at Our Lady of the Assumption School. My two children attend OLA in Years 4 and 6.
As Board of Trustee members, we are committed to ensuring that the success of our children is first and foremost. Our role as a Board is governance and we are guided by the National Administration Guidelines (NAGs) set by the Ministry of Education. As a Board we monitor student achievement and work extremely with our Principal to ensure that each and every learner has the necessary teaching and resources to achieve success.
Presently we are undertaking the building of two new classrooms, as a result of roll growth, and the upgrade of Rooms 8, 9 and 10, so an additional building of three new learning spaces. In the future, we will be working with our diocese around adjustments and changes within our school with the proposed new church and Parish Centre facilities for the newly formed Christchurch South Parish.
We have an extremely strong sense of family and community at OLA. Learning not only occurs in the classroom with events such as School Discos and Family Fun Nights being organised and run by our PTA to encourage and foster the feeling of togetherness within our school community. Our Special Character team on our Board runs ‘Helping Hands’ - an initiative which provides meals, support and assistance to those who need it within our school and parish community.

My experience of OLA is one in which I see the special character lived out each and every day. Our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Life Long Learning and Faith underpin every aspect of our children’s education journey.
