In New Zealand, the national curriculum sets the direction for your child's learning. Each learning area has developed sequentially over the last 10 years, in consultation with the community. Now, all that work is drawn together in The New Zealand Curriculum to allow our school the flexibility to develop teaching and learning programmes that meet the diverse needs of our particular learners and the expectations of our community. The New Zealand Curriculum isn’t a handbook that schools have to follow exactly. It sets the direction, and individual schools use that to design teaching programmes. Schools and communities working in partnership can use this document as the starting point for creating exciting learning opportunities that take account of the different learning needs of their students. One of the tasks we have set ourselves this year is to review the vision, principles and values we have in place at Our Lady of the Assumption School in order to check that they align with the revised New Zealand Curriculum and most importantly the Religious Education Curriculum. The Catholic Character is not something simply added on to what would otherwise be a secular State school. Our Catholic Character provides the framework within which the whole school curriculum is delivered. It is integral to everything that takes place in our school. Vision Consultation |
