A Catholic school is one with
“Special Character”. The essential elements of this are providing a sound
faith knowledge and opportunity for all students in conjunction with the Parish
church, Our Lady of the Assumption.
a) The school programme includes Religious Education and
observances based on the teachings of the Catholic Church. This includes
regular school and class Masses, regular religious tuition within all aspects
of the school curriculum with a leading role in school life undertaken by the
Parish Priest. We strive to ensure religious education is not just
another subject but something that permeates our whole school being.
b) We respect that each child is an individual and encourage
students to have a caring and Christian attitude towards each other and members
of staff. Prayer is a regular and meaningful part of our school
day. We assume that children pray at home, are exposed to the Bible,
regularly attend Sunday Mass and that Christian values are a priority in daily
living. The religious education programme provides a faith environment
where the spiritual and moral development of each child is fostered.
Children are encouraged to respond freely to God according to their gift of
faith. It teaches children to develop ways of integrating faith, life and
culture.
c) The Parish offers to all baptised Catholics, the
sacramental programmes for First Reconciliation, First Communion and
Confirmation, usually from Year 4 onwards so that the children have an
opportunity to receive these gifts of our faith. There is a high
level of parental involvement in the preparation for these sacraments.
Your participation in masses, assemblies, liturgies, class prayer, parent help,
PTA, meeting new parents, and in the community all build and share in the
ongoing development and growth of our Special Character.
